[RocketsNW] Ingraham Career Fair -- "Rocket Scientist" needed

Hi all,
Ingraham High School (Seattle) is putting on a career fair on May 28th.
Given the success of our Aerospace program, the organizers of the fair
have asked me to try and recruit a "real live rocket scientist" to be
part of their panels in the morning.
If anyone out there:
A) works in the aerospace industry,
B) lives a reasonable driving distance from IHS in North Seattle (it's
too much to ask to have folks driving from Oregon or Spokane...), and
C) would be willing to actually take a day off and volunteer to speak to
teenagers...
Then please relay the answers to the four questions in blue at the end
of this thread and I will pass you on to the organizers.
Thanks all!

Below you will find the information about the career fair. We have two
great key note speakers (see below!) and 100 panelist, but no one from
the "rocket science" area. If you know of someone who would like to come
and help inspire the kids please have the answer the blue highlighted
questions below or call me asap.
Take Care,
Shawn
Good Morning Peter,
As you can, I am passionate about this career fair. The reason that I am
involved is that I care deeply about students and helping them to see
big pictures. A vice principal at Ingraham High School asked if I could
help her put together a career fair for their students to attend at the
end of the school year.
Well... when I commit to something, I go big or I go home! I do it with
not only my two feet, but I also start getting the feet of everyone
around me moving that I can! So, the gathering has begun.
Folks are coming forward to help, and it's becoming an incredible event.
So far, Luke Burbank (from NPR) is going to start off our morning
speaking to the entire student body. Then, the 9th graders are going to
participate in an interactive learning event with a great organization
called Choices.
The 10th, 11th and 12th graders will be listening to (their choice) of
panelists who will be speaking about their professions. There will be 25
different panels (with 4 people on each panel) from which to choose. Our
students will have the opportunity to attend two different sessions
during the period of an hour and a half.
To finish off the morning, the students will again gather together to
hear Kevin Carroll, a national renowned author and motivational speaker.
And, here's where I need your help... or feet... or actually your time -
I would love it if you could be one of the panelist. The information is
included below.
The dropout rate for Seattle Public Schools is 32%, Ingraham is only 19%
- these are the numbers that inspired me to help. The diversity numbers
at Ingraham are great, they look like this:
Black 23%
Asian 31%
White 33%
Hispanic 11%
American Indian 2%
Special Education Kids 14%
Free & Reduced Lunch 47%
Drop-out rate 19%
With the exception of the free and reduced cost lunch ( too many folks
trying to make ends meet!) and the dropout rate, I love the schools
numbers.
Thanks for always being super-supportive, that's why I can accomplish
what I do when I "borrow" your feet and the feet on many others.
Take Care, Shawn
Good Afternoon,
Thank you for signing up to help with Ingraham Career fair. I want to
let you know how the process is going to work. First of all, I need you
to answer the questions below asap:
1) What is your career/job?
2) How much education did your job require?
3) What hours are required, how many per week and what time of day or
night?
4) What is the average salary range for someone in your position?
Then I need your name, address, phone number and email address.
Here is what you can expect our morning (on May 28th) to entail. Luke
Burbank will be speaking from 8-9. Then we have two sections of speaker
panels from 9:10-10:40 (the first from 9:10-9:50, the second
10:00-10:40). We will need you to do both sections, so we can allow for
maximum coverage with our students. All of the freshman will be
participating in a program called Choices during this period. From
10:45-11:45, Kevin Carroll speaking. From what I have heard, the kids
are already talking about this event. This is a great sign that they are
ready to hear about what some of their choices for the future might be.
On the day of the event, I need you to show up at 8:50 AM sharp, so that
you can check in at the office, take a look at your room assignment and
meet the other panelists in your room. I'd like for you to all have a
few minutes to get to know each other, so please be on time.
Thanks in advance so very much for helping us with our Career Fair.
There is one more question you will need to be prepared to answer the
day of the event: What personality traits are assets that help you enjoy
this job?
For example if you are a lawyer you might have to enjoy meeting with
people, listening to their problems and finding a solution that suits
your clients. You also might have to enjoy researching and finding other
cases that might help your client. Or, if you are a salesperson you
might have to like hearing peoples stories, making people feel special
while under-promising and over-delivering. There will be a teacher
facilitator in each room to help with student management and discussion
movement. You should be finished by 10:45. If you would like to stay to
hear Kevin Carroll or to come early to hear Luke Burbank, please let me
know in advance so that I can make seating arrangements.
If you know of any other dynamic speakers that you think might be able
to help us make a difference, please let me know as soon as possible. I
will need their contact information.
Thanks again for helping make this event one to remember.
Also, please let me know if you have any questions regarding the event.
Have a great day.
Take Care,
Shawn Hosford
