[RocketsNW] Building our rockets backwards??

You can cheat on this technique to allow longer motors.
Instead of a solid bulkhead, use a CR.
Provide hard points on the CR for recovery attachment (along with the
eye-bolt on the motor).

I did this on my Competitor-5 because I wanted to use a 52" long 98mm
motor with only 48" components.
I installed a coupler with a CR at the top for strength (with the ID
edges rounded smooth)
The bottom of the coupler also had a CR that captured the top of the
MMT...it to is only 48" long.

Now I have an anti-zipper motor section that allows a motor to protrude
into drogue bay.

Matt,

This is a great way to build larger mid and high power rockets.
However,
take into consideration the largest motor you think you will ever put in
that
bird and design accordingly. And I mean the largest you can ever think
of using.
Even if you think you will never use that motor because chances are one
day
you will be at the launch site with the best weather ever and the
thought will
slowly creep into your head, "Let's fly that really big motor......"
then
later you will be kicking yourself if you built too short. Trust me on
this
one. Did it myself.

On your other question, I use screws to hold the upper and lower
sections to
the ebay and later designs have just used a single upper airframe and
the ebay
is slid up the tube then secured with screws. Drogue deploys out the
bottom,
main out the top. I still put my drogue closer to the upper airframe so
when
the main comes out it deploys above the fin can.

If you want to see one in person at the next Mansfield launch stop by
the
Spokane "settlement". Quite a few of us build them that way.

Hope this helps,

Lou
